Murrayshall Country Estate has been granted planning permission by Perth & Kinross Council for a multi-million pound spa and leisure development.

The £30 million masterplan to diversify the estate includes a £15m investment into a new spa.

The 2,508sqm spa will include eight treatment rooms, an indoor/outdoor spa pool, gym and studio, an outdoor spa terrace and a café.

In the spa, there will be a focus on both indoor and outdoor heat treatments to maximise views of the Perthshire countryside.

Hebridean seaweed skincare brand ishga will provide a menu of spa treatments. ishga’s director, Leon Trayling, is the spa consultant.

"The new Murrayshall Spa has provided a unique opportunity to create a full service wellness offering, for residents, spa day guests and the local community."

“The location has enabled the concept and design team to make the very best of the natural landscape, immersing the guest in the beautiful surroundings,” said Trayling.

“With excellent connectivity to the central belt of Scotland, this development will be a wonderful addition to the UK spa scene.”

A vibrant yet tranquil spa space

Architect Fergus Purdie has envisioned a building with floor-to-ceiling views and glass on all sides. Interior design is by Graven.

If all goes according to schedule, it is hoped the leisure club and spa will open in 2025

Fitness, outdoor pursuits and glamping

The gym area will have its own reception, leisure pool and garden café with casual dining. The food and beverage consultant is Alan Hill, who has 29 years’ experience as F&B director at Gleneagles.

The approved proposals also include an extension to the hotel, an outdoor pursuits area, glamping units, lodges and the potential for residential development.

Murrayshall is one of a number of new Scottish developments that have recently been announced, including a wellness facility at Tennis star Andy Murray’s country house hotel, Cromlix, in Dunblane, Scotland and ambitious renovation plans at Crerar Hotels.

“We’re delighted with the council’s decision to approve our masterplan application. We’ve been examining our current standing and future prospects for some time and the decision to approve our proposals in principle is the first step at a new chapter for Murrayshall.”

Last summer, the estate launched a selection of spa treatments in its newly refurbished Gate House treatment room. Work on a second treatment room is currently underway.

Guests can book a selection of spa treatments using Scottish organic seaweed brand ishga, including two facials and two body treatments.

Murrayshall was built in 1664 and is the former home of Lord Lyndedoch. It was converted into a luxury boutique countryside estate in 1973, set in 365 acres of green space.
