The team behind Terme di Saturnia in Tuscany is to open a new thermal park in Milan.

The 16,000sqm spa and wellness centre is said to be the largest thermal spa in Italy and is scheduled to open in Q4 2024.

The Scuderie de Montel project is managed, like Terme di Saturnia, by Terme Italia Holding. The financial partner, Azimut SGR, has invested €51 million.

The site is located in the centre of Milan, in the prestigious San Siro district, renowned for its residences and gardens, very close to the new CityLife district.

The Scuderie de Montel thermal park project revitalises an art nouveau building and stables that were built by the banker Giuseppe De Montel, regarded as among the most prestigious in Italy.

“There is a source of thermal water in the park,” said a spokesperson for the project. “It will be utilised for the park’s pools. The water will be extracted from the source at a depth of 400 metres.

“This is very important for us as it leads us to consider Milan as a ‘thermal spa town’ for the first time in modernity.”

Inside the thermal park there will be various experiences including saunas, Turkish baths, relaxation and wellness areas.

The first floor will feature a series of treatment cabins, single or couples’, for massages and treatments, and an internal courtyard, among other elements.

Redefining the concept of relaxation and wellbeing

“Milan was chosen as the site of this project as it is a cosmopolitan city of excellence in Italy: capital of fashion and design, point of reference for world business and finance,” said the spokesperson.  “Scuderie de Montel will be a place of meeting, relaxation and wellbeing for all its guests.

“We are redefining the concept of relaxation and wellbeing, with each innovation rooted in harnessing the potential of water. Our focus is on the bustling metropolis of Milan, which has emerged as a pivotal national landmark and a nexus for international exchanges. Consequently, our services are tailored to meet the needs of affluent and ultra-affluent customers.”

Supplier details on the project are currently embargoed, but European Spa has been told that the project includes leaders in the construction, architecture and design sector.

The company’s website also lists another future thermal park project – Terme di Salice – in Salice (Pavia) Lombardia. No details have been released as yet.
