The Calcot Collection’s flagship property, Calcot & Spa, has announced it is opening a new wellness and fitness club in February.

The Grain Store is a purpose-built membership club created to connect mind, body and soul, and offer a place for members to work, rest and play.

Calcot Collection has invested £5m into the Grain Store. The wellness and fitness club will add to its existing spa facilities, which include an outdoor fireside hot tub, sauna and steam room, and 16m indoor pool.

Three dedicated exercise zones

The 280sqm wellness space has fitness kit by Technogym and Exigo, and a Ski Erg. It offers a timetable of classes, which will take place across three new spaces.

Wellness classes will take place in The Spin Shed. The Holistic Studio will offer Pilates, yoga and sound healing, while the exercise space will host HIIT workouts and Zumba.

The Grain Store also offers a space to relax in its new café and terrace, and members can book private meetings within The Huddle.

Uniforms are supplied by BAM, towels and linens by BC SoftWear and booking software by HART.

“This is a £5m investment we've been planning for some years. The spa at Calcot has had a membership wait list since it first opened nearly 20 years ago. The Grain Store allows us to extend this membership group at a time when wellbeing and fitness are an increasingly important part of everyday life.”

The next generation Calcot fitness offer

“The new Grain Store is a repurposed agricultural building that has been redesigned to create a more serene and spacious experience. Our main goal was to design a wellness space with ‘soul’, with a softer Biophilic approach,” explains Sparcstudio director, Beverley Bayes.

“As designers of the original Calcot spa (in 2004!) it has been great to have the opportunity to revisit and add another layer of luxury to the facilities.

“It was important to use sustainable materials to reflect the ‘upcycled Grainstore barn’ so we specified polished screed floors, clay-based wall renders by Clayworks and walls clad in corrugated iron with a zingy fresh green or concrete-coloured finish.”

"We’re particularly proud of the gym, which is zoned and divided by ash and chicken wire rustic screens. It includes a large functional training zone, a weights area and cardio and resistance zones. We are excited to see the launch of new spa zones which will include a deep relax room and extended lounge areas."

Proverb Assisted Stretch Pod

The first Proverb Assisted Stretch Pod in the UK is available on a gym floor. The Pod is where the Grain Store’s PTs will perform all assisted stretching, allowing them to better cater to client’s needs and use their body weight and gravity for the best results.

“All Proverb’s treatments are centred around assisted stretches, as we know it improves manoeuvrability, flexibility and gives a deeper result,” says Kirstie Sherriff, co-founder of Proverb.

“We train PTs in the gym to deliver revenue-generating, one-to-one assisted stretch treatments. The Assisted Stretch Pod also ensures the PT team are not on their hands and knees all the time which is better for their welfare.”

Purpose-built membership club

Situated amongst 220 acres countryside near Tetbury in Wiltshire, Calcot is a 14th-century farmstead with 34 rooms and suites. Overall, across the Spa and new Grain Store, the property has 60 employees including club hosts, personal trainers and spa therapists.

The award-winning Calcot Spa offers treatments using Elemis and Aromatherapy Associates’ skincare. New for this year, Proverb professional treatments will also be available within the Spa treatment rooms.

As part of the purpose-built Grain Store project, Calcot & Spa has formed a new partnership with Comfort Zone and will be offering new treatments on the spa menu.
