The Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group (MOHG) is set to open its first resort, Mandarin Oriental Cortina, in the Italian Dolomites following a new partnership with fund management company Attestor Limited.

New luxury spa in the Dolomites

The agreement will see the group take over the management of the historic Hotel Cristallo in the Dolomites in north-east Italy. The property, which is currently operated by Marriott International as part of its Luxury Collection, will close in Q2 2023 to undergo an extensive renovation before reopening in 2025 as the Mandarin Oriental Cortina.

The revamp will be spearheaded by Swiss architecture firm Herzog and deMeuron.

Facilities designed for wellness

An extensive indoor-outdoor spa and wellness facility, equipped with a swimming pool, will be a cornerstone of the resort’s offering.

According to MOHG, the resort will also provide a ‘picturesque backdrop’ offering a host of Alpine and outdoor pursuits, such as skiing, cross-country walking, hiking, ice skating, mountain climbing, golf and a kid’s club for younger guests.

“We’re delighted to be bringing the Mandarin Oriental brand to the beauty of the Dolomites, which has long been a destination of choice for skiers and adventurers and will no doubt appeal to fans of Mandarin Oriental who love Alpine pursuits,” said James Riley, group chief executive of MOHG.

Modern luxury for international travellers

Commenting on the partnership, David Alhadeff, partner at Attestor Limited, said : “We’re excited to be restoring this famous property to its former glory, while also creating a unique sense of modern luxury for international traveller.”

“We’re pleased to add an iconic Italian asset to our collaboration with Mandarin Oriental and look forward to creating an Alpine landmark,” Alhadeff added.

Mandarin Oriental Cortina represents the second such partnership between MOHG and Attestor Limited, with the two companies having previously collaborated on Mandarin Oriental, Lago Di Como.
