Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group’s (MOHG) highly-anticipated Mandarin Oriental Mayfair property is expected to open in London’s iconic Hanover Square later this year.

Described as a ‘discreet, sleek and intimate’ sister property to the group’s award-winning Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park property, the new hotel boasts 50 guestrooms, 78 private residents and the UK’s first Akira Back restaurant, led by Michelin-starred chef Akira Back, as well as Back’s ABar Lounge concept and an urban spa.

The spa will offer a myriad of bespoke wellness treatments and feature a 25-metre indoor pool, a vitality pool, a sauna, a relaxation room and several treatment rooms.

The property has been designed by Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, the group behind London icons including the Lloyd’s and ‘Cheesegrater’ buildings, and the Pompidou Centre in Paris, while interiors have been created by Tokyo-based design studio Curiosity.

Aiming to create a hub of nature and art paying homage to the cultural and creative neighbourhoods surrounding the hotel, Curiosity founder Gwenael Nicolas curated artworks by local British artists and one-off furniture pieces.

Meanwhile, Studio Indigio, a UK-based architecture and interior design firm, designed the guestrooms, by combining influences from the hotel’s location with touches reflecting MOHG’s heritage.

The hotel will be led by general manager Susanne Hatje, who joins the property from Mandarin Oriental New York.

“We’re incredibly excited to open a Mandarin Oriental hotel in the heart of such an iconic location. Mayfair has such a rich history and pedigree within luxury fashion and art and is continually evolving,” she said.

“This is a wonderful parallel for our new property, which will introduce delightful touches for which Mandarin Oriental is loved, but in a more intimate and informal setting. We feel that our warm, club-like atmosphere, which flows throughout the hotel, is set to make Mandarin Oriental Mayfair a new destination of choice in the area.”
