GAIA Skincare is this month celebrating its 10th anniversary. Founded in 2016 by Diane Nettleton, the brand has evolved into an internationally recognised wellness name, with 19 products and more than 800 therapists trained across the GAIA partner network.

Now present in more than 60 spas worldwide, a key milestone in the brand’s journey was the opening of its flagship Gaia Spa at Boringdon Hall Hotel in Devon in 2016.

Every GAIA product is handcrafted using natural ingredients and traditional methods, and designed to support therapist expertise.

Having already designed and built two spas, the brand is now working on the development of a third GAIA Spa. This is set to open in the south-west in 2027.

“When we launched GAIA ten years ago, our ambition was to create more than a skincare brand, bringing heart, integrity and a sense of soul into every spa experience. As we celebrate this milestone, we remain committed to creating meaningful products, treatments and rituals that help people reconnect with themselves.”

Bridging the gap between hotel and spa

Speaking exclusively to European Spa, Diane Nettleton said: “GAIA was born from a belief that exceptional spa experiences can only be created through a deep understanding of hospitality.

“Our hospitality team has more than 30 years’ experience. Unlike businesses that focus solely on products or consultancy, GAIA continues to own, operate and develop spa hotels.

“When we founded GAIA, we wanted to bridge the gap that can sometimes exist between hotel and spa. We wanted to draw on all our experience to create a brand with a genuine identity and a truly authentic, holistic and natural approach to guest wellbeing.”

New spa partnerships

“Globally we now have accounts in Casa Timis Romania, Le Primore Hotel & Spa Hungary and Ella Resorts Crete,” said Nettleton.

“We are also working with Aukstojiliskiava Lithuania and Sante Wellness Retreat & Spa South Africa, and will soon be partnering with a group of resorts in the Maldives.

“Closer to home, we’ve recently begun working with the Francis Hotel in Bath and three properties in the Historic House Hotels group.”

The changing definition of wellness

“For GAIA, wellness has always meant being the best you can be, regardless of your physical, mental or social health,” added Nettleton.

“While the conversation around wellness has evolved, our philosophy has remained constant. We believe true wellbeing is rooted in our connection to nature and the power of natural products.

“For us, wellness is founded on traditional, authentic intuition and is an extension of hospitality.

“Ten years in, we have expanded our GAIA team, all with the intention of allowing me to focus on becoming a brand ambassador, travelling more, attending events and speaking about GAIA’s positive impact.

“In September, we will be launching the new GAIA Lymphatic Sculpt treatment at our flagship GAIA Spa at Boringdon, before rolling it out across all our spa partners.

“On the product side, we are currently finalising a new vegan exfoliator and hair serum, which will launch towards the end of 2026.”
