Fairmont Hotels & Resorts’ fourth UK property, Fairmont Cheshire, The Mere, is set to open on July, 10.

Overlooking The Mere lake on the outskirts of Knutsford in Cheshire, the 157-acre resort is a landmark address, which dates back to 1086 and features in the Domesday Book.

The eagerly anticipated 1,715sqm Fairmont Spa, which has been kept closely under wraps, has been created in conjunction with spa consultant Rebecca Doyle of Wellness House Collective, formerly group spa and wellness director for Fairmont Hotels & Resorts.

Inspired by the Cheshire countryside

The Fairmont Spa is described as a journey of reconnection nourished by nature.

Spa facilities will include a sauna, steam room, hammam and tepidarium by Spa Design & Build. There will also be a 20m indoor pool, a hydropool and an outdoor heated vitality pool, by TR Designs.

In addition, guests will be able to enjoy a salt room, rasul, experience shower, ice fountain and two indoor cold plunges, as well as an outdoor Finnish barrel sauna and a relaxation room.

In every changing room, there will be private saunas and cold buckets, and the spa will have six therapy rooms, including one double with LEMI treatment beds. Wildsmith Skin will be the core product partner, in addition to KAMA Ayurveda and 111Skin.

There will be a Technogym equipped gym, free-weights and functional training area, as well as a covered outdoor studio and a Spa Bar.

Making special happen

The spa is the vision of Marie Soliman and Albin Berglund from London-based Bergman Design House.

“At Fairmont, we like to ‘Make Special Happen’ and we cannot wait to bring this celebratory sentiment to Cheshire,” said Claudia Kozma Kaplan, chief brand officer, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts.

“The Mere offers a countryside sanctuary, designed for pause and restoration, within the beautifully appointed spa, which draws inspiration from the lake.”

Martin Davies will assume the role of spa and wellness manager the Fairmont Spa.

Uniforms are supplied by Emile Rassam, towels and spa linens by Spa Vision Mascioni and software by Book4Time.

Fairmont’s newest property, part of the hospitality group Accor, will sit alongside The Savoy, Fairmont Windsor Park and Fairmont St Andrews.

Following a £35m acquisition, a £90m redevelopment of the historic property has been carried out by real estate developer Select Group. The Mere has been a leisure estate as well as a private club and is now returning to its roots as a hotel.

The countryside hotel will boast 116 bedrooms including 23 suites, dining at Gordon Ramsay at The Mere, The Club Lounge restaurant or The Orangery, and an 18-hole golf course.

“Fairmont Cheshire The Mere is a place defined by its setting; the lake, the fairways and the sense of space that surrounds it, all of which create a natural feeling of ease and connection,” says Gary Johnson, GM at Fairmont Cheshire, The Mere.
