Renowned Italian architect and founder of Studio Apostoli, Alberto Apostoli has published a new book: In Praise of Spas.

Focused on the philosophy of wellness, In Praise of Spas comes six years after Apostoli’s previous book, Architettura della Spa.

The new publication tells the story of the success of wellness spaces. It is a treatise on philosophy, sociology and the history of cultures from east to west, placing wellness at the centre.

Wellness spaces are explored through the ages and across different peoples, highlighting their functions and impact on modern culture.

The book is a eulogy to the culture of wellness and spas, and presents the reader with a new perspective on ‘being well’ that puts man at the centre.

“As an architect of wellbeing, I wanted to provide the reader with a new system of values, which is part of a modern culture of wellbeing, for the benefit of society,” said Apostoli.

“Spaces dedicated to so-called wellbeing must be recognised for the social value they bring to the community: the clear improvement they generate, in terms of psycho-physical balance and quality of life, is undeniable.”

“It is equally undeniable the virtuous cascading effect spas produce within a community of individuals,” he added. “If the individual is in harmony, so too will the society to which they belong be.

“The concept of wellbeing expands, detaching itself from fleeting trends or market-driven demands, and is a potential guide for the ongoing social revolution.

“Wellbeing is both the means and the goal of the new era of awareness we are currently experiencing.”

About Alberto Apostoli

Born in Verona, Italy, Apostoli founded Studio Apostoli in 1997.

He has specialised in the area of wellness design and worked on iconic projects including Lefay Resort & Spa Dolomiti in Pinzolo, Casa Cipriani spa in Milan and Four Seasons Spa in Moscow.

“The projects I develop always aim to address wellbeing, sometimes overtly, other times more subtly. It is this approach that defines the uniqueness in the work,” he said.

“Sustainability has assumed a primary role because it is inextricably linked to the concept of wellbeing for the planet, which is indispensable for the wellbeing of people.”

Apostoli also runs the Armonia integrated wellness consultancy, in collaboration with Annarita Di Giacomo and Enrico Della Casa.
