Luxury hotel and resort brand Aman has partnered with leading Japanese urban developer Mori Building Co to create Aman Residences, Tokyo and a Janu Tokyo hotel.

Marking the debut of Aman’s sister brand Janu in Japan, both properties will be located in the Toranomon-Azabudai Urban Redevelopment Project – an urban renewal scheme that will revitalise a large area of central Tokyo once completed in 2023.

Aman Residences, Tokyo will be located on floors 54-64 of the A District Tower. Offering 91 hotel-branded residences with exclusive services including a residents-only 1,400sqm Aman Spa, The Tower’s architectural design is by US firm Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects with interior design from Canada’s Yabu Pushelberg.

Janu Tokyo will be located on floors 1-13 in the B-2 District Tower. Designed by Denniston, under the leadership of Jean-Michel Gathy, there will be around 120 bedrooms, all offering views of a central square filled with lush greenery.

The opening of Aman Residences Tokyo will be a 'milestone moment' for the brand

Facilities at Janu Tokyo will include a 3,500sqm spa as well as a fitness centre and six restaurants. With social wellness a core part of the Janu concept, spa experiences and treatments will be paired with extensive hydro and thermal facilities, all with a focus on guests finding equilibrium and shared experiences.

Shingo Tsuji, president and CEO of Mori Building, said: “We are joining with Aman to realise a new form of urban wellness and provide a world-leading residential environment and hotel unlike anything ever seen in Tokyo.”

Mori Building adopts a vertical garden city concept

Vladislav Doronin, chairman and CEO of Aman and Janu, added: “Launching our first urban Aman Residences in Japan is a milestone moment in the history of Aman. It will also provide the setting for Janu Tokyo. In this hub of culture and art, we want to connect guests to the heart of this vibrant community and offer a chance for creative expression.”

Aman’s wellness-orientated sister hotel brand Janu is named after the Sanskrit word for ‘soul’. Janu features contemporary design with a conscious and sustainable approach, while each Janu hotel will focus on space and light, while social spaces will offer a mix of dining, lounge and bar areas with open kitchens.

Two further Janu hotels are currently under construction in Montenegro and Al Ula in Saudi Arabia.
