As part of an ongoing multimillion-pound refurbishment, Cannes’s luxury Hôtel Martinez, an art deco grande dame where A-list film stars have flocked since the 1920s, has unveiled its new spa.

The first destination spa in Cannes, L’Oasis du Martinez is spread over 2,750sqm and made up of four dedicated wellness spaces surrounded by lush botanical gardens, offering everything from tai chi to restorative Carita treatments.

A garden sanctuary

The new L’Oasis du Martinez Garden, where the spa is located, encompasses 2,800sqm of outdoor space exclusively accessible to hotel and spa guests.

It features a tropical garden with wooden decking for relaxation, yoga and massages, as well as a Provençal garden, linked by a wild path.

The spa also includes an all-glass Technogym equipped fitness centre and a gold-rimmed Yves Klein blue 20m x 5m heated swimming lane. L’Oasis pool bar serves teas, infusions and wellness drinks prepared with fresh fruits and botanicals.

Part of The Unbound Collection by Hyatt, the goal for Hôtel Martinez, according to general manager Yann Gillet, was “to create a luxurious sanctuary of tranquillity and wellbeing that offers a 360-degree experience.”

The spa includes five single treatment rooms, two couple suites with salt walls, a hair salon, a hammam, a tearoom, a quiet room and a dedicated men’s salon and barbershop.

A first for Carita

Carita’s first flagship space outside Paris, a mere seven decades after the brand’s creation, signature treatments on offer include its ultra-luxe facials that incorporate precious minerals, including the Rejuvenic Gold regenerating treatment using 24k Biotech Gold.

The menu encompasses everything from massages to osteopathy. Guests will have the opportunity to discover the brand’s new Crystal Pro.Morphose R.F anti-aging treatment, a next-generation device that uses radio frequency.

L’Oasis du Martinez will also offer sports, pregnancy and children’s treatments. Treatment beds have been supplied by Lemi.

Heritage and a carefree spirit

“We wanted to work with a French brand that was also somehow linked to cinema,” says Gillet. “The Carita sisters, Maria and Rosy, were hairdressers to stars such as Claudia Cardinale and Catherine Deneuve during the ’60s, so it’s a luxury heritage brand which shares our DNA.”

The hotel, which opened in 1929, has 410 rooms and suites, and continues to embody the carefree spirit of the French Riviera.

Interior designer Pierre-Yves Rochon has recently created two new penthouse apartments to reflect Hotel Martinez’s link to the cinema, with one paying homage to actress Isabelle Huppert and the other to Thierry Frémaux, director of the Cannes Film Festival.
