Ultima Cannes to debut in 2022

Ultima Collection is to further expand its portfolio with the launch of Ultima Cannes Le Grand Jardin boutique hotel and spa.

Scheduled to open in spring 2022, Ultima Cannes will be the only private property on the island of Sainte-Marguerite and is a historic, walled estate that was previously home to royalty including Louis XIV.

Boasting a ‘completely exclusive’ experience on the Côte d’Azur, the property will feature a luxurious spa, with further details to be announced soon.

Byron Baciocchi, co-founder of Ultima Collection, said: “Ultima Cannes signals the start of a new chapter for Ultima Collection. Sainte Marguerite’s historic offering is undeniably rare, which is why we did not hesitate in adding the property to our portfolio.”

Exclusively accessible by boat or helicopter, the island is just under two miles long and the largest of four in the Lérins archipelago, situated about half a mile off the French Mediterranean coast.

Ultima Collection will work with local experts to restore historic aspects of the property to their former glory. Le Grand Jardin will comprise the main Governor’s House, a turreted watchtower with a roof terrace and a third guest house building, which collectively date back as far as the 13th century.

The property will have 11 bedrooms with expansive suites in the Governor’s House and The Tower as well as multiple relaxation and dining areas and an organically filtered, heated outdoor pool.

Surrounded by 14,000sqm of botanical parkland, cypresses, palm trees, olive trees, fruit trees and local flowers dot the landscaped walkways.

The clear-blue waters off Le Grand Jardin are also home to British artist Jason deCaires Taylor‘s underwater sculpture garden, launched in 2020 and featuring Easter Island-like heads of local characters.
