Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan has opened the revitalised Sacred River Spa.

The 4,970sqm spa was created by Australian architects The Fulcrum Agency and Japanese interior designers Design Studio SPIN. The exterior landscaping is by Indonesian landscape consultants Bukit Kembar Permai.

The Sacred River Spa takes its inspiration from the ancient Balinese philosophy of niskala, which means ‘unseen energy’.

Spa facilities now include the Dharma Satya yoga pavilion, a relaxation pavilion and a nail studio.

There is a hybrid sauna treatment villa with an infrared sauna and a Swedish sauna by Wellness by Solace. There is also a sound healing villa and a water healing treatment villa complete with Vichy shower and water bed.

The spa houses seven private spa villas in total, each named after sacred Balinese Elements, including Sejuk (water), Gending (sound) and Teja (fire).

The spa villas are cocooned beneath the jungle canopy. Each has a bathtub hand-chiselled from Indonesian stone plus Lemi Portofino electric massage beds.

“There are few places in Bali where the 'unseen' energies are as powerful as here in the Ayung River basin. It's been a privilege to connect to these energies during this relaunch, not only through the ritualistic elements of treatments but through the sensitivities of the architecture and spiritual practices.”

Helping to weave traditional knowledge into the experience is resident wellness mentor Ibu Fera.

A former Buddhist nun, Fera studied the Dharma in monasteries across Asia. She leads complimentary meditation classes twice daily and hosts a series of life talks.

Revised spa menu

Central to the Sacred River Spa’s revised menu are transformative, water-centric treatments. Each harnesses the power of water’s flow between the visible and energetic worlds.

Six signature Balinese Healing Rituals showcase traditional wisdom, including Restu Bumi – a spiritual cleansing featuring local instruments, herbs and a warm gemstone massage.

The purifying Tirta Ening channels the healing power of Bali’s revered water element.

The Chakra Ceremonies treatment maximise the free flow of energy in a quest for spiritual, physical, mental and emotional balance.

Product partnerships

Treatments at the spa are enhanced by a new collaboration with Synthesis Organics, a holistic plant-powered line of skincare and aromatherapy products from Australia. Additional treatments are provided by Bali Radiance.

All rituals begin and end with quartz crystal singing bowls tuned to nature’s intonation, 432 Hz. There is also a dedicated Sound Healing Room, as well as bespoke playlists by Sayan Music to add a further layer of healing vibration through Solfeggio frequencies.

In the fitness hub, the spa has an Odin ice bath plus Life Fitness and Hammer Strength equipment.

“We are delighted to present the new-look Sacred River Spa. This tranquil retreat embodies our commitment to exceptional, personalised experiences that are deeply rooted in timeless Balinese traditions and culture.”
