The Spa at the PGA National Golf Resort in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, has reopened following an extensive renovation of the spa to create a ‘tropical wellness mecca’.

The redesign was helmed by V Starr, a Florida-based interior design firm founded by tennis star Venus Williams in 2002.

Resort within a resort

Described as a ‘resort within a resort’, the 3,700sqm spa offers 29 wet and dry treatment rooms, a hair and nail salon, a modern-meets-vintage barbershop and retail space.

"With PGA Spa, the classic design period of minimalist modernism and 1960s Palm Beach Gardens became the driver for the forms and shapes you see in the interior spaces of the spa.”

Design director

The spa experience extends outside with an outdoor deck equipped with two couples treatment rooms, two Himalayan salt rooms and a trio of mineral pools, each enriched with salts from around the world. A poolside café and bar completes the offering.

Tropical wellness mecca

In the firm’s first wellness project, the V Starr design team, led by Holly Nixon, paid homage to the spa’s tropical surroundings with palm prints and a soft, tonal colour palette of soft whites, washed wood, fresh champagne and blush corals.

Large bronze doors lead to a domed entryway with a pink palm feature wall and lustrous gold ceilings.

“With all of our projects, it’s important for us to understand the history of the building and its locality to determine how we can weave that into the design,” said Nixon. “With PGA Spa, the classic design period of minimalist modernism and 1960’s Palm Beach Gardens became the driver for the forms and shapes you see in the interior spaces of the spa.”

The wet areas offer private male and female retreats adorned with green and coral accents that extend into a co-ed lounge with large blush stone slaps imported from Turkey. Meanwhile, the barber shop is set against a more masculine backdrop, with a monochromatic palette and a custom mural telling the story of golf days gone by.
