The UK Spa Association (UKSA) has announced it is undertaking a State of the Industry spa snapshot survey.

The first survey of its kind since 2006, the survey will examine the trends, issues and challenges facing the spa sector.

UKSA, which is holding its summer networking event at Pennyhill Park (pictured above), has opened the survey to any spa, whether a UKSA member or not.

There is a two week roll-out period, which ends on June 16.

“The UKSA is determined to gain momentum for the industry on key issues, which have stagnated and are not changing. In order to do this, we need to know where the industry is at this point, so we can get a true gauge.”

Bobby Griffiths

General manager, UK Spa Association

“We have partnered with software company wegather.info to ensure the survey is fully confidential and anonymised,” said UKSA general manager Bobby Griffiths.

“We are keen for as many spas as possible to participate, to give a true picture of where the industry stands right now. Much has certainly changed in the years since the pandemic and the time is right to be more pro-active in assisting change.

“This industry snapshot is just the beginning. Every business looks at KPIs, but it’s also key to be able to benchmark these findings across competitors and the industry as a whole.

“At the moment, these figures simply don’t exist, so we’re aiming to implement an industry wide system.”

The results will then be delivered at Spa Life UK. UKSA will then begin rolling out an ongoing KPI data collection programme for its members.

The UK Spa Association has also announced that Colin Farndon is joining the current board.

Leisure director at Gleneagles Hotel, Farndon brings a wealth of industry experience to the association, having previously worked internationally in spa management and consultancy.

Jamie Pagan, area director of spa and wellness for Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, is also rejoining the board.

“A lot of hard work has gone on behind the scenes to get us to this point, but we’re now gaining real momentum,” said UKSA chair Abi Selby.

“Colin and Jamie are aligned with our long-term goals of making change in the industry through meaningful discussion and credible action.”
