Therme Group confirms extension of UK portfolio

Following the debut of Therme Manchester in 2022, Therme Group has confirmed plans for a nationwide rollout of wellbeing resorts in other UK locations, including Scotland.

The £250m (€291m) Therme Manchester wellbeing resort will be located in Peel L&P’s Trafford City and cover 65,000sqm.

Therme Manchester is the first step in the nationwide rollout of projects with a similar concept in Wales, Scotland and London. Each project will be developed at sites located near to city centres.

James Mark, UK chief operating officer, said: “Our resorts provide a vital piece of social infrastructure in our cities, creating relaxing and fun places to meet whilst also nurturing mental and physical health. Our aim is to ensure that a Therme Group wellbeing resort is within 90% of the UK population.”

Therme Group opened its latest resort in Bucharest in 2016 and has said the UK is now a ‘key focus’ for its international development programme.

Driven by the belief that wellbeing should be accessible to all, the city resorts will combine the traditions of thermal bathing with an indoor biodiverse system to nurture mental and physical health.

The concept, which combines nature, sustainable technology and culture, has been extremely successful in Europe for more than 20 years.

The group plans to work with central and local government bodies, investors and stakeholders to deliver its UK development plan.

There are also pipeline development plans for Asia, North America and Europe.
