Sue Harmsworth MBE announces launch of Touch for Cancer Care

Sue Harmsworth MBE, founder of the Standards Authority for Touch in Cancer Care (SATCC), has announced the launch of Touch for Cancer Care.

The new charity initiative has been created to connect individuals with SATCC-approved spas, wellness breaks and trained therapists.

Launched on World Cancer Day, Touch for Cancer Care has also built a network of support for individuals and families affected by cancer.

“For too long, cancer patients have been turned away from spas and wellness treatments due to outdated myths and inadequate training,” said Harmsworth.

“We know that therapeutic touch offers proven benefits, from easing anxiety and pain to improving sleep quality. But many cancer patients have been denied access to such treatments due to a lack of training and widespread misconceptions.

“Touch for Cancer Care changes that. It will bridge the gap by providing a trusted, accessible solution for individuals who need care and comfort.”

Touch for Cancer Care will officially launch in March 2025. The new service will ensure individuals facing cancer can access safe, supportive touch therapies from SATCC-approved professionals.

It will connect individuals with SATCC approved spas and therapists – sourced from the SATCC directory – offering supportive wellness experiences tailored to all stages of the cancer journey.

Leading venues, including ESPA Life at Corinthia and The Dorchester, have already joined the mission.

Under Harmsworth’s leadership, a team of world-leading wellbeing experts has also come together to create a dynamic community focused on conversation, learning, research and advice.

This team will help Touch for Cancer Care ensures that individuals receive comprehensive wellbeing support at every stage of their journey.
