Spabreaks.com has reported record-breaking sales for the first quarter of 2022.

The site saw a 170% increase in sales over the same period in 2020, with the milestone quarter following a successful 2021 in which the site’s daily record broken on several occasions.

Founder Abi Selby attributed the success to ‘unprecedented demand’ for spa breaks since the easing of UK lockdowns, as well as changing consumer habits, caused by the pandemic, an increase in home and flexible working, and time invested in both the business operations and the wider spa industry.

To capitalise on increased demand, Spabreaks has worked with its partners to create half-day and evening experiences, with these part-day packages now accounting for 18% of the site’s spa day and non-residential bookings.

"The record start to the year clearly demonstrates how Spabreaks.com has come out of the pandemic stronger than ever."

The site has also experienced a rise in bookings for two-or-more-night stays and seen a significant increase in booking lead times since April 2021.

“Since May 2021, we’ve seen multiple changes in spa desires from consumers. Traditionally one-night spa breaks were the most popular overnight options, however, we’ve seen a significant shift and now two-or-more-night breaks account for over 25% of our bookings – which has certainly increased that vital average transaction booking for us, as well as our partners,” said Selby.

“The record start to the year clearly demonstrates how Spabreaks.com has come out of the pandemic stronger than ever.”

“It’s fantastic to see such a strong first quarter for 2022, not only for us as a business but also as an industry. The increased demand from consumers seeking the wellbeing benefits of spa following the end of lockdown last year has certainly played a significant part in this, but so has their change in behaviour and the time we invested in not just Spabreaks.com but also in supporting the industry through a time of extreme turbulence,” she added.
