Wellbeing company Movementum Natural Health Systems has announced a new partnership with the UK’s first National Rehabilitation Centre (NRC) in Loughborough.

First launched at Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, Movementum is dedicated to ‘movement health’, working to integrate the sports science, wellness and fitness industries.

For the first time, Movementum is now taking that DNA into the public sector to serve national health patients. It will be working to establish post-rehabilitation support programmes for those leaving the new rehabilitation centre.

Fusing wellness and health

The NRC will be a first-of-its-kind 70-bed specialist rehabilitation centre for NHS patients who have experienced a life-changing illness or injury.

The £105m project will be run and staffed by Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.

The aim is to establish a Movementum Hub at the NRC, offering patients and their families a comprehensive three-year post-treatment support programme to help them to maintain a healthy lifestyle and to encourage adherence to their rehabilitation plans.

“This collaboration marks a revolutionary step towards transforming national wellbeing. We are bridging the critical gap between acute clinical care and long-term health, ensuring patients don't just recover, but thrive for years after leaving the centre."

Founder, Movementum

“Ultimately, my sincere hope is that this project acts as a vital bridge that finally links our different industries – spa, wellbeing, fitness and medicine,” said Movementum founder Stephen  Price.

“By facilitating shared learnings and knowledge, we can bring the best of what we do in the spa world to impact national health. We’re creating a unified approach to wellbeing that none of us could achieve alone.”

Movement Health Hubs

As founder of the Global Coalition of Movement Health, Movementum is championing this new area of healthcare and is in discussions to roll out Movement Health Hubs throughout the healthcare, education, spa and sports industries.

“Movementum Hubs create a designated bridge between the spa and the gym,” explained Price. “They’re clinically underpinned and proven, but retain all the culture and high-touch care of the spa environment.”

An extended reach

As part of the partnership, Movementum professionals will deliver programmes in select schools, educating children and their teachers to improve long-term wellbeing.

Another aim for the collaboration is to establish a new role based at the NRC – Movement Health Professionals. A role specifically designed for under-25s, it will help to bridge the gap between acute clinical care and long-term wellbeing.

“Movement Health Professionals will act as the guide for longevity and healthspan, linking the spa, the gym and medical health into one journey,” said Price.

A colleague wellbeing programme to support staff welfare, community, collaboration and purpose is also being explored, to help reduce the risk of burnout.

“Partnering with Movementum allows us to explore what enhanced support we can offer patients and their families,” said NRC director Miriam Duffy.

“We hope this collaboration will enable our patients to maintain long-term lifestyle changes, aiming to prevent complications and readmissions.”

About the NRC

The NRC is part of the government’s New Hospital Programme. It is due to open in 2026 and will have a national network of 26 universities country wide to ensure it remains at the forefront of rehabilitation research.
