The Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group (MOHG) has announced that its highly anticipated Costa Navarino property will open slightly later than planned, in summer 2023.

Originally scheduled to open in Q2, Mandarin Oriental Costa Navarino will be the group’s first Greek property.

The beachfront retreat is the result of a partnership between MOHG and high-end tourism developer and operator Temes S.A

The resort is said to embrace the natural beauty of Messenia and offer a back-to-nature experience, with views of the surrounding countryside and azure seas.

A signature wellness offering

An extensive 1,500sqm spa and fitness centre will include a 25m semi-Olympic indoor-to-outdoor pool and offer Mandarin Oriental’s signature wellness therapies.

The wellness concept is based around building a serene and rejuvenating sanctuary, with treatments inspired by rituals from the Far East and the abundant flora of Greece.

The Spa at Mandarin Oriental Costa Navarino, the vision of interior designer Afroditi Krassa, will feature eight indoor treatment rooms and outdoor pavilions. Heat and water experiences will include a herbal sauna, hamman and Japanese bath. There will also be an outdoor relaxation area.

A team of wellness experts will offer tailor-made nutrition advice as well as fitness experiences including yoga, tennis coaching and intelligent movement programmes. There will also be golf programmes.

Fitness equipment is supplied by Technogym, Gear Up and Keiser.

Sustainability first

The resort will celebrate aspects of 19th-century Greek design and architecturally reflect the surrounding historical sites.

Architects Tombazis & Associates and K-Studio have used a natural, terracotta colour palette, custom-designed furniture and floor-to-ceiling windows.

A replanting programme has installed more than 2,700 olive trees

With more than 2,700 replanted olive trees and 500,000 planted native shrubs, the overall project has been built to rigorous sustainable specifications.

Surrounded by the Peloponnese, Costa Navarino is a sustainably-first destination located in Messenia in the southwest of Greece.

Navarino Bay is home to Mandarin Oriental, Costa Navarino and Navarino Waterfront is the setting for the newly opened W Costa Navarino.
