Coworth Park, the Dorchester Collection’s country house hotel and spa in Berkshire, has launched a new Hebridean sound treatment. The spa, led by Teresa O’Farrell, global head of wellness and spa, and spa director, has worked closely with ishga to develop the concept.

The collaboration also includes Brian d’Souza, international DJ and founder of Swell, who brought his knowledge of sound wellness and music psychology to harness the power of sound, translating this into a therapeutic sound treatment to accompany ishga’s award-winning products.

“We have built a strong relationship with ishga and are thrilled to be offering this unique sound therapy treatment to our wellness offering here at Coworth Park,” says O’Farrell. “Relaxation is at the forefront of everything we do here at The Spa at Coworth Park so we are excited to introduce this new bespoke experience to our guests.”

90-minute sound treatment

The 90-minute treatment is designed to work in harmony with the music as it takes the guest on a sound journey to the Hebrides.

Combining rituals to induce a meditative state of relaxation, it begins with a foot bath containing seaweed harvested by hand from the pristine shores of the Isle of Lewis. This is followed by a singing bowl sequence that leads into a Balinese inspired massage. The treatment concludes with a relaxing protocol which sees warm oil poured onto the scalp.

“Since launching the treatment, it has received the most wonderful feedback from our guests. The music composition has made this a very unique experience allowing the mind to be taken on a journey of deep relaxation and restoration.”

Healing sound wellness

The treatment offers a moment of relaxation and rejuvenation through sound therapy which is designed to be transportive, calming and relaxing.

Swell’s unique approach to therapeutic sound was founded by d’Souza and uses a combination sound therapy, music composition and biophillia to ensure ishga Sound Treatments capture the essence of the ocean and its home in the Hebrides.

“Sound therapy is the practise of using sound to affect the brain and body in a positive way. Sound is such a powerful medium but we are only beginning to understand its potential.”

Mindful and meditative

Curated to help rest the mind, the sound therapy track transports each guest to the relaxing shores of the Hebridean isles with the calming sound of the waves and soft meditative music blended together by d’Souza and his team at Swell.

The unique sound compositions are based on the natural sounds of water; from the ocean, the beaches and the seaweed habitat of the Isle of Lewis. The soundscapes also draw on the musical traditions and instruments found in the Hebrides played throughout the treatment.

Said to benefit cognitive function and the nervous system, and enhancing overall wellbeing, the experience is a new and innovative way to reset the body and mind.
