Austrian skincare brand Susanne Kaufmann has revealed a series of new hotel spa partnerships as well as its newly appointed chief commercial officer.

Harrison Gregory joins the team with experience from leading global brands including Elemis, Grown Alchemist and, most recently, Omorovicza.

The Kaufmann family started as hoteliers, running Hotel Post in Bezau, a small village in Austria’s Bregenzerwald, for five generations.

Susanne Kaufmann grew up there, learning about plants from her grandmother, initially formulating treatments for the hotel’s guests. She founded the Susanne Kaufmann skincare brand in 2003.

With Gregory on board, the focus is now on international growth within the spa, hospitality and retails sectors.

“I love that Susanne Kaufmann is a brand fully rooted in spa; the Hotel Post Bezau was one of the first restoration retreats when it opened in 1850. Our vision is to double down on key markets in Germany, Switzerland and France for the next six months, and dramatically expand our US retail presence.”

A growing hotel spa network

In Austria, Susanne Kaufmann now features in two Rosewood properties: the Asaya Spas at Rosewood Vienna and Rosewood Schloss Fuschl near Salzburg.

Rosewood Schloss Fuschl will also host a seasonal Susanne Kaufmann restoration retreat.

The brand is also working with Grand Hotel Belvedere in Wengen, Switzerland. Beaumier has opened an 800sqm wellness spa for which Susanne Kaufmann personally designed the treatment menu.

The brand is also preparing to make its debut in Morocco at La Mamounia in Marrakech.

Active restoration

Speaking exclusively to European Spa, Gregory continues: “We currently work with more than 50 five-star hotels, which is growing year on year. With the backing of owners, Manzanita Capital, we will strive to double our spa portfolio in Europe.

“As a team, we share the same clear vision: to introduce the concept of Active Restoration, which is a philosophy behind every formula and treatment, to customers from the treatment room to the bathroom shelf.

“Applied inside a spa, Active Restoration changes what a treatment is for,” adds Gregory. “More than just an interlude, the treatment is meant to leave a guest better able to recover, well after they have checked out.”

Susanne Kaufmann has collaborated on products with Byredo and Diptque, and has a partnership with Sanctum.

In retail, it is a leading brand at Oh My Cream in France, Skins in the Netherlands and Selfridges in the UK.

The Spa at Hotel Post Bezau remains crucial to the brand, as the site where all new formulas are tested both clinically, and in daily use on real guests.
