Ensana, one of Europe’s largest providers of health and wellness spas, has entered the German market with the re-opening of Fürstenhof Hotel.

The renowned Bavarian property has undergone extensive renovations to transform the hotel, plus its 4,500sqm wellness and treatment areas.

Located in the Lower Bavarian Spa Triangle in Bad Griesbach, Fürstenhof is known for its thermal springs, which rise from a depth of 1,000m.

The spa and wellness offering relies heavily on the natural resources on site, including thermal water and parafango body wraps, which combine warm paraffin wax and mineral-rich sea mud.

Natural healing resources

The new spa area combines traditional Bavarian charm with updated facilities.

These include a 4,400sqm health and wellness area with indoor and outdoor thermal pools and whirlpools, saunas, sanariums, salt grottos and experience showers.

A key role is played by the fluoride-containing sodium hydrogen carbonate chloride thermal water sourced from Bad Griesbach’s therapeutic springs.

Fürstenhof will offer tailored health programmes for the musculoskeletal system, stress reduction and holistic wellbeing, using natural healing methods.

Medical services will include balneotherapy, medical massage, mindfulness training and physiotherapy. The focus is on musculoskeletal issues, lifestyle and longevity programmes.

Medical facilities are scheduled to open in early 2027.

Global expansion plans

Ensana plans to double its number of international properties by 2030, expanding to further locations in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. It’s focus in on historic spa towns and regions with natural resources.

It has recently announced the acquisition of Sairme Resorts in Georgia. Located in the Caucasus Mountains, Sairme is renowned for its therapeutic thermal waters.

“Ensana is thrilled to enter Georgia, an amazing country, with hospitality in the local people’s DNA,” says Halmos. “Georgia’s immense potential in health spa tourism, coupled with its rich cultural heritage, makes this a perfect addition to our portfolio.”

The group has also acquired Ain Najm in Saudi Arabia and Montegrotto Terme in Italy, which is expected to open at the end of 2026.

Founded in 2019, Ensana currently operates 28 health spa hotels across Europe, known for their natural resources with healing properties and renowned traditional hotels.
