One Spa at the Sheraton Grand Edinburgh appoints new spa director

One Spa at the Sheraton Grand in Edinburgh, Scotland has appointed Fiona Young as its new spa director.

Most recently cluster head of spa for Apex Hotels, Young has worked in spa and wellness since 1998.

Starting her career as a spa therapist aboard Carnival cruise ships, Young then worked in the Berkshires, Massachusetts, US as an assistant spa director at Cranwell Resort, now Miraval Berkshires.

She then moved to a spa director role at Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health. “Here I led a 100-strong team of doctors, Ayurvedic practitioners and therapists,” says Young.

“Kripalu is the largest yoga retreat in the United States. As a not-for-profit centre known for its educational approach, it really developed my passion for wellness and showcased a different side of spa.”

More recently, Young has worked at Crieff Hydro in her first cluster role with Crieff & Peebles Hydro, before taking on a cluster role for Apex Hotels.

Spa facilities at One Spa

One Spa at the Sheraton Grand Hotel is an award winning four-story spa with 16 treatment rooms and a well-established membership base of more than 1,000 members.

The spa reopened after a £2m refurbishment in 2020, adding a feature rooftop hydrotherapy pool by Barr + Wray to the offer, as well as a salt inhalation room and deep-relax suite. A thermal suite offers a hammam, ice fountain, experience showers, heated loungers and an aroma steam room.

“I have a very talented team of managers at One Spa, who have great experience and manage the main day-to-day operations,” says Young.

“A membership refresh is scheduled for the start of 2025 to ensure we are offering an exclusive and personalised membership. Our new membership package, called One Lifestyle, will include not only use of our facilities but also complementary monthly massages and personal training.”

New wellness initiatives at One Spa

Other new initiatives planned for One Spa in 2025 include the launch of a monthly wellness event, featuring everything from sound baths to fire dancing.

“We are excited to continue to collaborate with ESPA, refreshing our signature treatment and packages as well as investing in our retail area and spa café in the coming year,” says Young.

The spa is about to launch ESPA’s Ayurvedic Treatments onto its treatment menu and is also looking to partner with a local, Scottish skincare brand to round out its wellness offering.

One Spa was named Best Spa in Scotland at the Good Spa Guide Regional Awards 2024 earlier this month, an award it also collected the title in 2023.
