First two spas open at The Red Sea Resort in Saudi Arabia

Red Sea Global’s sustainable luxury tourism destination in Saudi Arabia – The Red Sea – is now welcoming wellness guests.

Across both The Red Sea and Amaala – Red Sea Global’s planned destinations, which extend to 28,000sqkm of the Saudi Arabian coastline – there will eventually be 79 hotels.

The Red Sea is billed as one of the most ambitious ever tourism infrastructure projects. Construction began in 2019 and the initial phase of development is set for completion by the end of this year.

At Amaala, where work is underway, Red Sea Global has announced partnerships with Clinique La Prairie, Jayasom, Four Seasons and Rosewood.

Six Senses Southern Dunes

Opened in late 2023, Six Senses Southern Dunes The Red Sea, is one of two inland resorts.

Designed by Foster + Partners, it pays homage to the Nabataean heritage native to the Red Sea coast. The 76-room resort has an Oasis for functions and activities, inspired by a desert flower, at its centre.

The 3,974sqm Six Senses spa has swimming pools, outdoor treatment cabanas and a holistic anti-ageing centre.

The lower floor is home to treatment rooms and wet areas, which feature self-shaded water surfaces and deep cold pools to create a contrast to the hot climate.

“Our guests can experience unique services, including biohacking – a shortcut to better wellness by ‘hacking’ the body’s natural recovery systems,” said Vipula Bhagwani, wellness director at Six Senses Southern Dunes.

“We encourage out guests to embrace the joy of self-care is the Alchemy bar workshop, crafting their own personalised face mask or body scrub using simple and natural ingredients.”

Facilities at Six Senses Southern Dunes

There are six treatment rooms – two double (one with a Rasul) and one single Hammam, plus two outdoor cabanas.

There’s also an Alchemy Bar for guests to hand-make clean skincare products using the spices and fragrances once traded by the Nabateans. In addition there is a biohacking recovery lounge and a sensory suite with meditation dome.

On the floor above, there’s a fully equipped gym, separate spin studio and a suite for yoga and aerial yoga.

“Six Senses Spas aim to make wellness fun, accessible and driven by science,” added Bhagwani.

“The heart of our identity is our Wellness Screening, through which we analyse key physiological biomarkers, allowing our team to better guide guests towards their wellness aspirations.”

St. Regis Red Sea Resort

Also located on Ummahat Islands, in the Al Wajh Lagoon, St. Regis Red Sea Resort is an hour from the main hub island by boat.

Designed in avant-garde style by Japanese architects Kengo Kuma, with interiors by Kristina Zanic Consultants, it opened in early 2024 with 90 villas, an outdoor pool, fitness centre and spa.

The 865sqm spa includes a sauna, steam room, experience showers, and separate male and female hot tubs.

A cold plunge is available indoors and outdoors, as well as a foot bath, outdoor vitality pool and lap pool, and a steam room.

As well as the Pearl Suite dual treatment room there are two deluxe double treatment rooms, two singles and three outdoor cabins. There are also three yoga pavilions, all serviced by six therapists. This number will expand in the coming year as the resort becomes more established.

Signature treatments at the St. Regis Spa

Signature treatments include a 24kt gold facial, a gold and caviar ritual to nourish and rejuvenate , and a series of immersive wellness journeys incorporating yoga and meditation.

All treatments are performed with AMRA products.

The island resort is powered by 100% renewable energy generated by solar power and one of the world’s largest battery storage facilities located. Emphasis on waste reduction and recycling is at the heart of daily operations.

Further properties announced for The Red Sea

Nujuma will be the first Ritz-Carlton Reserve to open in the Middle East on Ummahat Islands. Nujuma will have 82 water and beach villas, plus a spa and swimming pools when it opens in a few weeks time.

Faena The Red Sea will be Faena’s most transformative flagship resort. Designed by Foster + Partners, the resort will act as a sanctuary to unwind and recharge in nature, within the hub island of Shura.

Behind the scenes at Amaala

Phase one of Amaala, which has a vision to provide guests with transformative personal wellness journeys, is well underway. It will consist of 12 resorts and the first guests are set to be welcomed in 2025.

The current plan is to open all eight of the resorts in phase one in 2025. The following brands have been announced so far: Jayasom, Equinox. Rosewood, Clinique La Prairie, Ritz Carlton Reserve and Four Seasons.

Once complete, Amaala will be home to more than 29 hotels and 1,200 luxury homes.

Amaala will go beyond sustainability to have a regenerative impact on the environment. Targets have been set to deliver a 30% net conservation benefit to local ecosystems by 2040.

Jayasom Wellness Resort

Jayasom Wellness Resort will be situated in Amaala’s Triple Bay. It will have 153 rooms and 24 branded residences.

As well as a family wellness product there will be an adults-only zone. Facilities will be designed to immerse guests in a journey of personal transformation.

Approximately 7,000sqm will be dedicated to spa, holistic health, fitness, physiotherapy, nutrition and aesthetic beauty.

Rosewood Amaala

An integrated wellness haven, Rosewood Amaala’s offer will weave together wellness and sustainability.

Designed by ACPV Architect’s Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel, the resort will be powered by 100% renewable energy and aims to have zero-carbon footprint and be zero waste to landfill.

The focal point of the resort’s integrative wellness offering will be the Asaya Spa.

Asaya will consist of seven treatment rooms, a gym, two movement studios and a yoga pavilion. Private treatment pavilions will be set around a protected green oasis.

Four Seasons Resort Amaala

Also located at Triple Bay, Four Seasons Resort Amaala will have 220 rooms, as well as villas and 26 residences. It is being designed by architects U+A.

Wellness is a central pillar supporting the destination’s vision of people and planet first. As well as a spa nestled within a tranquility garden, featuring a sculptured waterfall, there will be an organic spa garden. Treatment experiences and therapeutic remedies will include halotherapy and cryotherapy.

The property will offer a bespoke collaboration with fitness trainer Harley Pasternak.

Clinique La Prairie

The 36,115sqm Clinique La Prairie Health Resort within Amaala will prioritise longevity. This will be symbolised by a central Longevity Plaza leading to four distinctive areas for medical care, nutrition, movement and wellbeing.

The medical pillar will include advanced diagnostics lab and radiology. On the wellbeing side there will be cryochamber, hyperbaric suites, IV infusion and a series of next-generation therapies, still to be unveiled.
