Therme Group has released drone footage highlighting the scale and shape of its £500m Therme Manchester development.

Building work on what will become the UK’s largest wellbeing resort began last September and earthworks are now beginning to define the site for the first time.

Roughly the size of 28 football pitches, the site will feature a defining central circular hub and combine nature, water and wellbeing with cutting-edge architecture and technology to create a year-round destination.

Once complete towards the end of 2028, Therme Manchester will become one of the largest urban wellbeing resorts in the world.

Circularity in Practice

Therme Manchester has also announced it is one of the first signatories of Circularity in Practice, a nationwide initiative inspired by His Majesty King Charles.

The Circularity in Practice pledge is a UK-wide sustainable manufacturing initiative to make reuse the default construction method, promoting practical approaches to material reuse and circular design.

At Therme Manchester, repurposed materials will be recycled using a unique 3D printer to produce items such as furniture and plant pots. These materials will then be reprocessed at the end of their useful life to create new products.

“Circularity has to move beyond theory and into delivery. We are demonstrating how waste materials can be transformed, reused and kept in continuous circulation at scale,” said Professor David Russell, CEO of Therme UK.

Inside the Therme project

Therme Manchester will feature swimming and thermal bathing areas as well as spa and fitness zones. There will be immersive digital art and sustainable gardens, all designed to support health, happiness and social connection.

As well as a lagoon and wave pools, the site will offer multi-sensory sauna rituals, steam rooms, water slides and affordably-priced spa therapies.

Set to welcome 1.7 million guests in its first year, Therme Manchester will feature a year-round indoor climate of 33°C, made possible by a sustainable glass design.

“Our vision is to make a lasting positive impact, creating jobs, supporting communities and helping people live healthier, happier lives for years to come.”

Water-based wellbeing

Therme Manchester will combine hundreds of water-based activities with wellbeing treatments. The 65,000sqm design includes separate, connected structures immersed in a natural landscape.

A large family zone will include waterslides, a wave pool, indoor and outdoor pools, and relaxation areas. There will also be a dedicated adults’ area with warm-water lagoons, swim-up bars, mineral baths and heat experiences.

Daily programming will include water-based fitness classes, yoga and Pilates in the surrounding gardens.

Therme Group’s flagship destinations include Therme Bucharest and Therme Erding, Europe’s largest and most visited thermal destination. New destinations in development include Frankfurt, Incheon, Toronto, Washington DC, Dallas and Dubai.
