The Swan Hotel & Spa, located in the heart of the Lake District, has released details of its upcoming Holte Spa.

Opening in December 2021, the spa is the result of a £7 million investment and will cover 743sqm, including six treatment rooms and a spa garden offering a host of outdoor thermal experiences.

Billed as a multi-sensory wellness experience, Holte Spa was developed by Kirsty MacCormick of The Spa Consultancy and aims to connect guests with their bucolic surroundings.

The hotel has also been expanded to include 30 new spa bedrooms, built by DLG Architects alongside specialist contractor Medlock with interior design by Fiona Parke of Johnston Park Interiors.

The spa’s treatment rooms will be outfitted with Gharieni treatment beds and REM chairs and trolleys, while the spa’s treatment menu will combine authentic bathing traditions with contemporary spa experiences inspired by the Lake District.

Treatments on offer include bamboo massage, sound therapy, CBD massage and Redwood foot reflexology, as well as rituals from Ground Wellbeing, Comfort Zone and OTO.

The wellness experience will extend into the spa garden with outdoor hot tubs providing a woodland bathing experience and an indoor/outdoor chemical-free vitality pool, designed by Unique Pools. A Finnish sauna, supplied by Finnmark, a relaxation cabin, a steam room and waterfall showers complete the wellness offering.

"We’ve carefully chosen product partners and suppliers with a similar ethos, such as [comfort zone], OTO and Ground Wellbeing, along with Back Label for uniforms and clothing."

Other facilities include a Spa Café and Deli serving delicious and nutritious dishes made with produce from the hotel’s kitchen garden, and a spa boutique offering a range of lifestyle products, including skin and body care and even books.

“The Spa Consultancy is delighted to work on the development of the first Holte Spa within the UK,” said MacCormick.

“James Houlston, managing director of BH Group, and Sarah Gibbs, managing director of The Swan, are both passionate about creating a facility that offers authentic experiences and treatments with a focus on sustainable practices.

“We’ve carefully chosen product partners and suppliers with a similar ethos, such as [comfort zone], OTO and Ground Wellbeing, along with Back Label for uniforms and clothing and local Cumbrian brands such as The Bathhouse and Agnes and Cat.”

BH Group MD James Houlston said: “We’re delighted to be investing and bringing an ambitious vision to life at The Swan. ”

“The addition of 30 new bedrooms and a spectacular new spa will bring exciting new elements to the Lake District, as well as utilise local resources and generate jobs within the community. We can’t wait to show guests and locals the end result at a time when health and wellness has never been so important,” he added.
