Spa Luce del Lago opens at the Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni

Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni has reopened its newly refurbished Spa Luce del Lago. Meaning ‘glows of the lake’ in English, Luce del Lago sits on Lake Como in Bellagio, Italy.

The 1,000sqm wellness retreat draws inspiration from the natural beauty of its surroundings. Interior design incorporates hues of sunset pinks, deep lake blues and sandy beiges into its design palette.

The design, by Silvia Giannini Architetto, focuses on elegant lines, with geometries highlighted by the large stoneware slabs in colours of the lake light.

A haven of water and wellness

Luce del Lago delivers a five-star aquatic experience with two heated indoor pools by Pool Piscine Castiglione. The adult pool features a unique whirlpool with multi-directional water jets, which create a gentle tumbling water effect. There is also a children’s pool.

Additional wellness facilities include a traditional Finnish sauna, a steam bath and an emotional shower equipped with chromotherapy by Ki Life. There are also tranquil relaxation rooms for meditation or quiet reflection and a bespoke hair and nail parlour.

There are five treatments rooms offering massages and therapies using Italian brand MEI and French expert Sothys.

MEI is renowned for its extraction method, using gas to derive essential oils from herbs instead of traditional distillation. This technique preserves the natural balsamic effects of herbs, resulting in creams and oils so pure they’re edible.

Uniforms are by Maurel and towels, robes and spa linens by Rivolta Carmignani. Changing room furniture is from G&G Interior Design.

The spa manager is Serena Gilardoni.

State-of-the-art fitness facility

Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni’s fitness complex has also been remodelled with the latest innovations from Technogym.

It also features a professional-level squash court and, adjacent to the fitness area, a wellness area with a sauna and a cold bath.

Fitness manager Paolo Sesana runs guided discovery walks around Bellagio – leisurely walks around the lush paths of the Villa Melzi Botanical Gardens and a more intense mountain challenge walk.

In a second refurbishment phase, the plan is to add a new private spa and a hammam.

The 94-room Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni is the joint oldest luxury hotel on Lake Como and the only five-star property in the historic village of Bellagio.

It has been beloved by historical figures including Sir Winston Churchill and US presidents Roosevelt and John F. Kennedy as well as Mary Shelley, Sofia Loren and Mario Testino.

The hotel dates back to 1850, and has been owned by the Bucher family since 1918, who still runs the property today.
