Rockliffe Hall owner acquires Feversham Arms

The owners of Darlington hotel and spa, Rockliffe Hall, have purchased the Feversham Arms Hotel and Verbena Spa in Helmsley, North Yorkshire.

Rockliffe Hall’s owner Steve Gibson has purchased the 33-bedroom boutique hotel and spa, which was placed in administration in March 2025.

The sale was to a new company, The Feversham Arms Limited, which is owned by Rockliffe Hall Limited. The hotel will continue to operate in its current format.

In a statement, Rockliffe Hall’s owner Gibson says he recognises the appeal of Helmsley and the surrounding areas and sees the ongoing potential for the Feversham Arms Hotel.

Rockliffe Hall also owns The Pheasant Hotel in Harome, North Yorkshire. The five-star hotel and spa is currently undergoing a multi-million pound renovation, which is set to complete next year.

The renovation project includes a new 36-cover standalone restaurant, led by culinary director James Close and the restoration of the hotel’s iconic Grade II listed Old Hall.

Verbena Spa at the Feversham Arms Hotel

Current spa facilities at the Verbena spa include a saunarium, aromatherapy room, steam room, monsoon shower and foot spas. There is an outdoor hot tub with view of Helmsley Castle and an outdoor heated pool, and treatments on offer are by temple Spa.

Gibson has yet to reveal plans for the Hotel and Spa, following its acquisition.
