The founder of Premier Software, a supplier of business management software for spas, died unexpectedly on October 5.

Chris Mallen co-founded the Cannock-based company in 1994 and it was acquired by Journey Hospitality in March 2023.

It now operates as a separate division alongside Journey’s existing product, agency and consulting brands.

"I worked with Chris for more than 12 years. He always listened to feedback from people out in the spa industry. He pushed the boundaries of software development and launched a company that would stand the test of time – Premier will be celebrating 30 years in business next summer."

Director of spa, Premier Software

A pioneer in salon software

Mallen launched the industry’s first salon and day-spa management software as a small Staffordshire business.

A hands-on director, he was often seen alongside the team at trade shows and industry events.

He loved to travel and enjoyed training new clients to get the most from their software solutions.

With Mallen at the helm, Premier went from strength to strength, providing award-winning software to some of the UK’s most prestigious spas.

The brand’s UK artner spas include Harrods, The Belfry, Macdonald Hotels and ESPA Life Corinthia.

A well respected, steadfast supplier

As a keen runner, Mallen completed many endurance runs, including the London Marathon and Great North Run, to raise money for local charities.

He is survived by his wife Abbi and their sons Corey and Alfie.

Rob Whitehead, product specialist at Premier Software, said: “The sudden passing of Chris has sent shockwaves through our close-knit team.

“He was funny, kind and also a great mentor and friend to many of us. We have been privileged to have his guidance and wisdom over the past 30 years.”

A funeral will be held on November 1. The family have requested that any donations be made to the Midlands Air Ambulance in his memory.
