A new, independently owned hotel in the Italian wine country of Piedmont is aiming to offer guests nature-inspired relaxation with its boutique spa facilities.

Set in five hectares of agricultural land that includes vineyards from which the hotel will make its own wine, Nordelaiais the product of a three-year restoration project at an 800-year-old farmhouse by British design studio These White Walls.

Nordelaia offers a rustic 'digital detox' with no in-room televisions

The historic building has been transformed into 12 guest rooms and a 450sqm spa, with a new three-storey building created to host dining and an events space.

The spa is set in the vaults of the ancient barn with views across the valleys of Montferrat and is equipped with a Turkish hammam, a banja, a Kniepp pool and a herb room all supplied by Italian wellness specialist Starpool. Spaces for yoga and fitness equipment, supplied by NOHrD & Water Rower complete the offering.

Relaxing rituals and rejuvenating treatments are provided courtesy of [comfort zone] which has also provided the treatment room couches.

A separate new buiding houses dining and event facilities

Open all-year-round, Nordelaia encourages a ‘digital detox’ for guests by the exclusion of televisions in its rooms. The hotel’s location offers guests the benefits of countryside walking and cycling in the rolling hills, wine-tasting tours at local vineyards and foraging for indigenous ingredients, which can subsequently be cooked during classes at the hotel using traditional techniques.

Discussing the local craftsmanship and textured, natural materials used in the creation of the hotel, Rose Murray, founder of These White Walls, said: “Our design for Nordelaia is centred around wellbeing and escapism; the aim being to create a holistic and nurturing environment in which guests can relax, switch off and connect not only with each other, but also with the stunning landscape that surrounds them.

“We define this design as ‘rustic-luxe’, where rest and reconnection with nature go hand-in-hand with cultivated indulgence.”
