The Hotel Chalet Al Foss Alp Resort in South Tyrol, Italy has revealed a new wellness centre, with a unique waterfall installation at its centre.

The vision of architect Alessandro Cestele from Studio D4L, the mountain resort spa has an indoor pool, outdoor infinity pool and seven different outdoor heated tubs.

Thermal facilities in the 700sqm indoor spa include a multi experience sauna as well a Klafs Espuro steam bath, a Mountain Head Spa cabin and a Longevity Suite with a cryotherapy chamber.

In the 800 sqm outdoor spa there is a panoramic sauna with views of the Presanella Glacier.

In two double treatments cabins H20 Alpin Spa offers facial and body therapies using a unique line of bespoke products, made exclusively by a Trentino pharmaceutical company.

The new 700sqm indoor wellness centre was devised by architect Alessandro Cestele from Studio D4L

An immersive wellness experience

The philosophy behind Cestele’s design revolves around the four essential elements of nature, each represented in different areas.

The entrance features a pool with a transparent floor and wall, symbolising the element of water, while the lobby boasts an imposing counter representing the element of fire.

The main restaurant room embodies the element of air, and the new spa is built around the elements of water and earth.

"Designing this spa meant paying close attention to every detail. Materials, textures, lights, shadows and sounds were selected and combined to create atmospheres that envelop the guest, offering an experience that engages all five senses.”

“The spa was designed as an emotional and sensory journey. Each space is intended to stimulate and surprise the guest in a unique way,” continues Cestele.

“Different functional yet stylistically coordinated microcosms follow one another in a logical sequence, guiding the spa experience in a harmonious flow.”

The soul of the spa

In the central space, the pool and natural waterfall has been created by Aquaform.

Inspired by a natural gorge and reinterpreted in a contemporary style, there is a natural water curtain hidden in the ceiling. This creates a veil that illuminates the surrounding environment.

“Water, of course, is the beating heart of this project,” says Cestele. “It represents an element that evokes a sense of safety and serenity, a return to an ancestral and natural connection”
