New leadership movement launches at Champneys Tring

Champneys flagship spa in Tring has played host to a new leadership event spearheaded by Kay Pennington, founder of Resilience and Power, and Fabienne Lindholm from Rev Up Your Life.

The pair joined forces to provide a unique educational session for a select group of 20 spa industry professionals. Attendees included spa operators, business consultants and supplier brands.

The purpose of the day was to provide business-building strategies and authentically share knowledge to enable spa leaders to identify their real purpose.

Topics centred around empowering and supporting attendees to help them grow and develop their leadership skills in key areas.

The event was hosted by Laura Sheridan, group spa director at Champneys.

Having served the spa industry for more than 25 years, Sheridan said she was passionate about personal growth and leadership development for both herself and her team.

“This year is very special to our teams at Champneys, as we celebrate our centenary,” she said. “Having recently been promoted to group spa director, I plan to develop and expand the Champneys spa brand and the teams I manage during this 100th birthday year.

“Champneys was founded in 1925. We have always been known for our professional teams as much as for our award-winning surroundings. This year, it is my mission to grow a team as strong and resilient team as the Champneys brand itself.”

Resilience and Power

The leadership event explored how to lead and communicate with a multi-generational team and the power of connection and purpose.

Pennington and Lindholm focussed on channelling strengths in the workplace as well as how to create an internal communication strategy

Bobby Griffiths, GM of the UK Spa Association, took part in the day and said: “There was much to think about and apply, both professionally and also in any life setting.

“The space created felt very safe, nurturing and empowering. I hope this movement will continue with other courses and conversations for an extended network of industry colleagues keen to truly support each other’s growth.”

Empowering individuals

Sheridan will be rolling out Kay Pennington’s Resilience and Power workshops to the remainder of Champneys’ teams over the coming year.

The workshops focus on positive psychology, using scientifically backed techniques to guide attendees to strengthen their focus and channel positive self-esteem.

“Feelings and emotions are a huge part of business,” said Pennington. “Empowering individuals to feel confident and motivated in themselves can help support both recruitment and retention.

“Ultimately, I want to help bring the sparkle of what we do best back to the leaders in our industry.”

A second event, open to all spa operators and leaders who wish to develop their skills and grow personally, will take place later in the year. It will be hosted by Champneys and presented by Pennington and Lindholm.
