Austrian nature-based hotel Naturhotel Forsthofgut has expanded its waldSpa to include a new health-focused medi spa offering.

Located in Leogang, near Salzburg, at the base of the Asitz mountain, waldSpa Health has been built within the property’s Lake House.

Reinforcing Forsthofgut’s commitment to wellbeing and longevity, the new medi spa offers holistic diagnostics and bespoke activity, nutrition and treatment programmes.

Owners the Schmuck family have expanded the existing 5,700sqm WaldSpa to add the 200sqm medi spa.

Building on the parallels between a tree’s health and that of the human body, Forsthofgut’s approach focuses on four mainstays – Roots, Strength, Breath and Mind – to represent a tree’s roots, trunk, leaves and crown.

An experiential combination of nutrition, movement, rest and targeted treatments steers guests towards lifestyle transformation.

Naturhotel Forsthofgut has developed its waldSpa Health concept in consultation with a Board of Experts who guide the health and wellness offerings and provide training.

Team leader Dagmar Rizzato has been Forsthofgut’s adviser on spa development since 2010.

She is joined by Dr Andrea Gartenbach, guest professor at the Geneva College of Longevity Science and breathing and development coach, Andrea Günther.

Robert Pfund is a physiotherapist specialising in orthopaedic manual therapy while Dr Sebastian Kalbhen  – a GP experienced in holistic health – and Dr Anna Cecilia Kröll-Kalbhen – a practitioner in traditional and alternative medicines – complete the Board.

Longevity at waldSpa Health

Special services available at waldSpa Health include the cryochamber at -110°C, supplied by Druschke and IHHT hypoxia training in collaboration with Mitovit.

Infusions of 100 per cent bioavailable vitamins, also from Mitovit, are also on offer for cell regeneration. uVida metabolic analysis is used to inform tailored training and nutrition plans.

The uVida rest and movement analysis measures respiratory gases at rest and during exercise to provide precise data on metabolism, fat burning and individual training zones.

Technogym’s Checkup is a smart analysis tool available for recording the guest’s initial body composition, strength, flexibility and balance to calculate their wellness age.

The Schmuck family has been running Forsthofgut for more than 400 years

On arrival, guests are met by a waldSpa health concierge, who helps curate a personalised programme for each individual’s journey to good health and a positive mindset.

A balanced, appetising diet is fundamental to the process to improve the digestive tract and metabolic system.

About waldSpa

waldSpa at Naturhotel Forsthofgut has a wellness philosophy that is inextricably linked to nature. Added to the hotel in 2016, it boasts a 3,500sqm adults-only area with a large-scale thermal journey, supplied by Ruha, set across three floors and culminating in a rooftop hot tub and sauna.

There is a 25m sports infinity pool on the second floor, as well as a rock shower and forest tea lounge. Pools are supplied by Eberl.

The newest wellness addition, the Lake House was added in 2021, conveniently connected to waldSPA by an underground passage. As as as the new medi spa it includes a giant relaxation lounge with 50 recliners and water beds leads to a 42°C onsen-style pool, adjacent to a natural swimming lake with an infinity pool.

Dedicated to guest wellbeing

“Without our guests, Naturhotel Forsthofgut would not exist, so it is essential for us to satisfy and anticipate their every wish and whim,” said co-owner and managing director, Christoph Schmuck. “Ours was the first forest spa, and waldSPA Health is a natural progression from that, as guests increasingly seek lifestyle improvements for good health and longevity.”

“The new facility complements our existing wellness offerings. Each guest receives a personally tailored holistic health care itinerary, grounded in science and nature, and incorporating exercise, nutrition and targeted treatment.

“Nature is the power from which we draw inspiration. Its influence runs through every detail at Naturhotel Forsthofgut.”
