Following a 12-month redevelopment, the independent family-owned Manor House Alsager in Cheshire has completed its redevelopment with the opening of its new swim-up spa bar.

A UK first, it is located in the dual-aspect orangery-style pool house, designed by interiors specialist Steve Gibson Design, which has a contemporary luxe feel.

The swim-up bar can be accessed from indoors as well as from the large outdoor heated vitality pool. Indoor underfloor heating, coupled with a log-burning stove, makes it a year-round retreat enhanced by views of the 2,000sqm English country spa garden.

Modern meets rustic

The spa is the first in the UK to install outdoor underfloor heating as well as provide individual heating in each hanging bed.

Offering an array of experiences with a rustic, English country garden theme, the garden spa has a panoramic laconicum with swing seats that overlook the fields beyond, a summer house, a light relaxation lounge and a patio.

Other features include the table-top hydrotherapy tub set in a formal sunken garden, and a number of experiences housed in garden buildings – a salt steam inhalation chamber, the potting shed herbal sauna and an ice plunge bath and shower experience.

All thermal experiences are supplied by Anapos Thermal Spa Equipment.

In addition, there are three treatment rooms, providing a menu from British brands Tribe517 and Temple Spa.

A place for escapism

Jess Mellors, general manager at Manor House Alsager, told European Spa exclusively: “Throughout 2022 we have seen Manor House Alsager develop into something so wonderful, with one-of-a-kind features.

“The garden is especially amazing, it looks like it’s been there forever – that rustic feel is exactly what we wanted.

“The hanging beds are unique and already a highlight for guests, and people are really drawn to the swim-up bar. It’s south facing so even in October it felt like being abroad.”

“The Manor House is a family-run business but we’re not spa experts; we’ve built the spa as somewhere we’d want to go. This is new territory for us and we’re proud of what we’ve achieved,” said Mellors.

“We wanted to create a spa that’s super rustic and individual, nothing sleek or manicured – a place for escapism and time to be with yourself, that’s welcoming enough to visit comfortably on your own.

“Our guest journey isn’t prescriptive, we try not to tell people what’s out there in the garden, we just encourage them to go and explore themselves.”

Be well...
