A contemporary new floating sauna has been unveiled on the Tromsø coastline in Norway.

Offering guests unique views of the Northern Lights, Tromsø Sauna is a collaborative project between handcrafted furniture company Ekte, sauna specialist Pust and Skapa Architects.

Guests can shower in the elemental surroundings

Striking and sustainable Kebony wood was chosen for the exterior façade, the roof and the ocean terrace decking of the sauna: as it ages, Kebony wood develops a silver-grey patina that will give the sauna a weathered aesthetic without losing any dimensional strength.

The project has taken a year to complete and is available for both locals and visitors to enjoy.

Erik Stange Ankre from Pust said: “The public has really embraced the sauna and made it a part of their daily lives.”

Ekte’s Kim Daniel Arthur added: “Seeing people enjoying the Northern Lights while relaxing in the sauna or daring themselves to have a dip in the sea is such a rewarding feeling. To imagine that we built something that gives people a joyful escape is amazing!”
