Lowry Hotel reveals UK’s first ‘tech spa’

The five-star Lowry Hotel in Manchester has announced the launch of RE:TREAT, a luxury wellness destination and the UK’s first £750,000 ‘technology spa’.

Launching this month, RE: TREAT will replace traditional spa treatments with new therapies including cryotherapy, meditation pods and sensory deprivation.

Billed as ‘a combination of treatments which cannot be found at any other spa hotel in the UK’ as well as ‘the ultimate Hollywood experience in Manchester’, the Lowry is partnering with Icepod, Somadome and I-sopod alongside Elemis, Grown Alchemist and Gaia.

A multi-sensory spa

RE:TREAT will work with a range of in-house experts including Assure Health, the Complete Health Clinic, Inspirit and Excellence One to provide guests with a multi-sensory spa experience ranging from IV drips to diagnostic health ultrasound scans.

“We are delighted to be the first UK hotel spa to offer such a variety of distinct offerings.”

The new spa includes four treatment rooms, a zen relaxation area with loungers, a fitness studio and a brow and lash bar. The colour palette includes soft pinks hues with exposed terracotta walls, warm lighting, rattan accessories and a living moss wall.

Unique and traditional

In a bid to revolutionise the destination spa experience, RE:TREAT offers across four groups – spiritual, emotional, physical and social – ensuring guests leave feeling physically refreshed and mentally rejuvenated.

While the Icepod cryotherapy chamber will offer full-body exposure to freezing temperatures for three-minute sessions, the Somadome personal meditation pod will offer guests meaningful stress relief in 20 minutes using binaural beat meditation, magnetic therapy and healing light therapy.

The I-sopod flotation tank allows the spa to offer restricted environmental stimulation therapy (REST). Also known as sensory deprivation tank, it is a dark, soundproof tank that is filled with a foot or less of salt water.

RE:TREAT will also offer traditional spa treatments including massages and facials, with packages including the winter-themed ‘Warm & Cosy’ inclusive of 60 minutes of treatments and a cup of hot chocolate, as well as the ‘Balanced and Grounded’ package which offers one 60-minute treatment, access to Somadome, and a smoothie.
