Nils Behrens speaks exclusively to European Spa following the announcement that the spa will not reopen
Nils Behrens, chief marketing officer of Lanserhof, has spoken exclusively to European Spa about the reasons behind the permanent closure of Grayshott Spa in Surrey after more than 50 years in business.
The leading wellness destination, led by manager Sheila McCann, was acquired by the European medical spa group Lanserhof and London & Regional Properties in 2017.
“The current market conditions make the reopening of Grayshott unsustainable and therefore, sadly, we have had to make the difficult decision to close down the business.”

Chief marketing officer, LanserhofIn a statement last week, McCann said the closure was “inevitable” in the aftermath of the restrictions of England’s two lockdowns, and that the business was “no longer considered viable”.
Speaking to European Spa, Behrens added: “The impact of Covid-19, the second national lockdown and further local restrictions have presented significant challenges for Grayshott and the hospitality business as a whole.
“As a result of this, the current market conditions make the reopening of Grayshott unsustainable and therefore, sadly, we have had to make the difficult decision to close down the business.
“We know how important Grayshott is to many of our regular guests and the local community alike, and we have been overwhelmed by the support and kind messages from all. We are in the process of considering and evaluating all options for the future.”
