In a major milestone for the UK beauty, spa and hair industries, a newly-formed, sector-specific team has been created within the UK government that will be dedicated to supporting ‘personal care’.
The announcement follows a sustained campaign from four organisations – the British Beauty Council, the UK Spa Association, the British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology and the National Hair and Beauty Federation – which have worked closely with the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy to underline the size and scope of the personal care sector.
"The creation of a designated sector team for personal care is fantastic news and means we can collectively continue to progress the value perception and respect given to our hardworking and incredibly dedicated industry.”

“We have achieved this major milestone as an industry and look forward to shining the light on the beauty industry to further showcase and improve this amazing sector,” said Millie Kendall, MBE, CEO of the British Beauty Council.
Lesley Blair, CEO and chair of BABTAC and CIBTAC, added: “As one of the largest contributors to the UK economy, our sector deserves to have a strong, dedicated voice in government and we look forward to the opportunities this will provide our industry going forward.”
