This year’s Global Wellness Day is encouraging people to “choose joy” with a theme of #ThinkMagenta.

The event, taking place on June 11, aims to remind people that wellbeing begins in the mind.

#ThinkMagenta is a three-step philosophy that encourages people to ‘Stop, Breathe and Smile’. Described as a ‘very simple way to disperse the dark clouds’, the initiative encourages people in times of stress and anxiety to stop what they’re doing, take a deep, calming breathe and smile ‘in spite of everything’.

Spas and wellness facilities in 170 countries will offer free health and wellbeing activities

Additionally, the event’s organisers have created a manifesto of small, simple changes that the organisation believes will make a significant difference to people’s wellness.

Divided under several headings, the statement encourages people to walk more, enjoy a healthy diet, reduce their use of single-use plastics, spend more time with loved ones and prioritise good sleep.

Founded by Belgin Aksoy in 2012, Global Wellness Day is a worldwide celebration championing the importance of wellness. Now going into its tenth year, the event organises free health and wellbeing activities and events for the public in 170 countries, with many high-profile spas getting involved.

“In 2022, we desperately need the spirit of GWD and we’re here to change the way people think. Quite simply but in a very profound way with #ThinkMagenta.”

The day has also been endorsed by several notable celebrities, such as media mogul Oprah Winfrey and TRH the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, as well as multi-national hotel corporations and local and national governments.

“#ThinkMagenta is not about being optimistic, it’s about being realistic,” said Belgin Aksoy.

“Things happen in our lives and we have the choice to call them good or bad things. Sometimes difficulties, failures or illnesses become the greatest teachers. No matter what is happening we can always find a way to choose joy.”

Reflecting on how the event has developed over the past 10 years Aksoy said: “Even though GWD is only one day that inspires people to live well, it promotes a philosophy that spans the whole year.

“We were just a few people when we set out on a journey for GWD – today more than 350 million people around the world celebrate it. Even though GWD is only one day that inspires people to live well, it promotes a philosophy that spans the whole year.

“In 2022, we desperately need the spirit of GWD and we’re here to change the way people think. Quite simply but in a very profound way #ThinkMagenta. ”

Be well...
