Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts has announced plans to manage the former Hotel Formentor in Mallorca, carrying out significant renovations before reopening the 90-year-old property in 2023.

Located on a 1,200 hectare site with access to a pristine beach, the landmark hotel will offer 110 guest rooms and suites with sea or forest views. Onsite tennis courts will be complemented by the creation of extensive spa facilities, details of which are yet to be released.

The second of the group’s projects in Spain, following the opening of Four Seasons Hotel and Private Residences in Madrid in September 2020, the Mallorcan property will be developed in partnership with private equity investment company Emin Capital.

The Balearic property benefits from its own vineyard, located five minutes’ drive away, where guests will be able to enjoy exclusive programming including farm-to-table culinary experiences.

Renovations will be overseen by architects Estudio Lamela and SCT Estudio de Arquitectura, with interior designs by Gilles & Boissier.

The work will be carried out in sympathy with the hotel’s natural surroundings and includes the restoration of native vegetation, rainwater harvesting and the installation of solar panels and heat recovery systems to reduce the hotel’s impact on the environment.
