New guidance published by the UK government for Close Contact Services has stated that saunas and steam rooms will be allowed to reopen no earlier than May 17 when Step 3 begins.

Identified in the ‘What’s Changed’ section of the guidance on the UK’s ‘roadmap’ out of lockdown, spas and beauty salons will also be able to provide reading materials such as magazines in waiting areas, and offer refreshments in line with the guidance for restaurants, pubs, bars and takeaway services.

The requirements for the use of gloves during treatments has been clarified in section 5.3 on Hygiene. The update states: “Unless it is crucial for the treatment, change practices to avoid any potential skin-to-skin contact. You should continue to use gloves for any treatments where there is a risk of contact with blood or body fluids.”

The government has also updated the social contact rules with gatherings of up to 30 people permitted outdoors and up to 6 people, or two households of any size,  permitted indoors.
