Elemis has announced it has entered into a new partnership agreement with Beauty Banks, which works to end hygiene poverty in the UK.

As an official partner of Beauty Banks, Elemis will be powering an electric van to help the charity reach more people in London and the southeast.

The Elemis electric vehicle will help save the charity’s funds, which would otherwise be lost on London’s ULEZ fees, while also reducing their impact on the environment.

Ending hygiene poverty

Established in 2018, Beauty Bank was set up by friends Sali Hughes and Jo Jones, who were appalled by the term ‘hygiene poverty’ and decided to take action by leveraging their connections in the beauty industry.

Their belief is that being clean is a human right and fundamental to physical, mental and emotional health and wellbeing.

Beauty Banks are like foodbanks, but instead of food they provide personal care and hygiene products via registered charities including refuges and homeless facilities.

“Imagine getting ready for a day at work or school and not washing your body, brushing your teeth, or applying deodorant because you can't afford soap, shampoo or toothpaste. This is hygiene poverty, and it affects millions in the UK every day."

Co-founder, Beauty Banks

“We believe being clean is inextricably linked to good health, confidence and dignity. We’re delighted to be welcoming Elemis as a new brand partner, cementing a close relationship we established in the earliest days of Beauty Banks,” said Sali Hughes.

“Elemis’s gift of an electric vehicle will directly benefit our work and impact the lives of people living in poverty.

“The vehicle will allow us to increase our deliveries of toiletries and hygiene essentials by up to 40% in the southeast while reducing not only costs but emissions.”

A UK-wide network of beauty banks

Beauty Banks works with a UK-wide network of people striving to eliminate hygiene poverty, from those within the beauty industry to beauty bankers, who collect donations on the charity’s behalf to benefit their local community.

“We are so proud to become an official partner of Beauty Banks. Since the charity was founded in 2018, we have had the pleasure of supporting their amazing work and have remained in awe of their commitment to ending hygiene poverty across the UK."

Co-founder and chief product & sustainability officer, Elemis

“For the next 12 months, Elemis will be powering an electric van so that Beauty Banks can extend its reach and ensure there is no further impact on our environment,” said Orielle Frank, co-founder and chief product and sustainability officer at Elemis. “We can’t wait to see what this partnership achieves.”

A company with an ambitious sustainability strategy, Elemis announced it had achieved B Corp status earlier this year.
