Elemis has announced it is joining the Great British Beauty Clean Up, powered by the Sustainable Beauty Coalition.

Launched this month, the Great British Beauty Clean Up is a nationwide collaboration between retailers, brands and beauty professionals. The overarching aim is to reduce the amount of waste created by the beauty industry.

The campaign will encourage brands and retailers to collectively educate consumers on kerbside recycling and hard-to-recycle products as well as promoting the use of take-back recycling schemes.

The global beauty industry produces over 120 billion units of packaging each year but currently 56 per cent of people don’t recycle bathroom empties.

“Countless beauty empties end up in landfill every year, so I am thrilled to see the beauty industry coming together to tackle this critical issue. By making it easier to recycle even the most challenging beauty empties, we empower everyone to contribute to a more sustainable future.”

Oriele Frank

Co-founder and chief product and sustainability officer, Elemis

Leaders in sustainability

“As a B Corp, we are passionate about using our business as a force for good with the goal of helping people and planet thrive,” continues Frank.

“We are committed to creating products that promote healthy skin while positively impacting the planet. It’s out ambition of becoming a leader in sustainability within the beauty industry.”

Customers will be able to return hard-to-recycle beauty empties for a second life at the flagship Elemis store at 23 Monmouth Street London and The House of Elemis.

Each return will see consumers receiving a stamp, which when collected can be used for free samples and money off.
