David Lloyd is transforming the spa at its luxury club in Uccle, Brussels.

David Lloyd Uccle, a former chateau, sits in the middle of the Zonnewoud forest. The club is receiving a €6m investment to upgrade all facilities, including the spa.

The new spa retreat will be focused on the principles of heat, cool and relax.

Guests will be able to experience a range of heat therapies including experience showers, a hydropool, a citrus steam room and a cold-water plunge pool, supplied by Topline.

Bespoke steam essences, which tie in with the hot and cold journey – named relax, repair, energise – are supplied by Natural Spa Factory.

The 25m indoor pool will be completely refurbished, and the exercise studios are getting a makeover. There will also be a new dance studio.

“We’ve been working to adapt our spa concept in recent years, and David Lloyd Uccle will be an excellent example of how we see spa evolving,” explains Stephanie Holland, David Lloyd’s group creative director, talking exclusively to European Spa.

“The proposition is about overall wellbeing. We offer heat and cool therapies, and relaxation opportunities, intertwining spa and relaxation with mind and body classes.

“What we’re providing is more holistic wellbeing as opposed to hands-on treatments.

“It’s a journey and an offering that reaches more people, especially men. Uccle promises to deliver more than just a renovation, it’s a revolution.”

“We’d noticed a trend that our clubs with thermal spa facilities performed better, so we built our wellness and spa strategy around this.”

Further Belgian developments

The brand is also building a new club in Sterrebeek, set to open in late September 2023, on the famous National Golf Brussels.

Spa facilities will include a deep relaxation room, heated ceramic loungers, a hydrotherapy pool, seated foot bath, rock sauna, ice fountain and outdoor sauna.

In the UK and Ireland, David Lloyd’s spa retreat concept is in its clubs in Bushey, Derby, Dublin, Rugby, Teesside and Shawfair.

On developing the brand’s new spa strategy, Holland says: “My plan was a high end, luxe spa concept that could slot into the club. My background is in resort spas, so I knew premium hot and cold journeys, which are exceptionally good for wellbeing and mental health, would help drive membership.”
