Herbalist and naturopath Jenya Di Pierro founded Cloud Twelve, the London wellness and lifestyle club, in 2015.

Devised to offer a unique combination of spa treatments, holistic wellness, a luxury salon and an interactive play zone for families, the space has now evolved to include one of London’s most comprehensive biohacking labs.

European Spa talks exclusively with Di Pierro about biohacking’s place in the wellness world and its power to replace what guests in the modern world are lacking.

“In many ways, biohacking bridges the gap between how we live and how we’re biologically designed to live, but personalisation is everything. Biohacking should never be a one-size-fits-all menu of gadgets."

How is biohacking a helping hand for modern living?

“Modern life has distanced us from many of the natural inputs our bodies evolved to depend on; sunlight at the right times of day, grounding, deep rest, true darkness,” says Di Pierro.

“At the same time, we are exposed to unprecedented levels of stress, artificial light, environmental toxins and nervous system overstimulation.

“Biohacking isn’t about chasing extremes or optimisation for its own sake. It’s about restoration, intelligently reintroducing stimuli the body naturally recognises and responds to, in a controlled and therapeutic way.

“In many ways, biohacking bridges the gap between how we live and how we’re biologically designed to live.

“When used thoughtfully, biohacking technologies support mitochondrial function, nervous system regulation, detoxification pathways and cellular repair, which are foundational to true wellbeing.”

What are your most popular treatments?

“Our infrared sauna is popular for members looking to support detoxification, circulation and metabolic health,” says Di Pierro.

“We’re seeing strong interest in the full-body near-infrared light therapy system from members concerned with longevity, skin health and recovery. Its excellent for enhancing mitochondrial energy production and accelerating tissue repair on a whole-body level.

“Hydrogen inhalation therapy is relatively new in the UK. It delivers molecular hydrogen as a powerful antioxidant to help neutralise oxidative stress and support cellular health and longevity, can enhance recovery and protect against environmental stressors.

“What’s particularly powerful is when these therapies are stacked strategically. We work with our members to tailor biohacking to their specific need, for example, combining infrared heat with red-light therapy or pairing contrast therapy with breathwork. It’s the synergy that creates the shift.”

Non-invasive wellness therapies on offer include near infrared light, PEMF and lymphatic drainage

How do you ensure members see real results?

“Personalisation is everything. Biohacking should never be a one-size-fits-all menu of gadgets.

“We begin with assessment and conversation. From there, we create structured protocols rather than sporadic sessions. Consistency and correct sequencing are key.

“We also educate our members. When people understand why they’re doing something, compliance and results improve significantly.”

Head Spa at Cloud Twelve

A viral sensation in Japan, Korea and the US, head spa rituals are increasingly in demand in the UK. Designed to rejuvenate the scalp and restore hair health, head spas help to address a range of issues from hair loss and thinning to itchy scalp.

Di Pierro has devised a 17-step head spa treatment at Cloud Twelve combining trichology-approved scalp therapies with herbal medicine and advanced massage techniques.

“Hair spas are a trend because they feel so amazing but many treatments, while relaxing, fail to deliver optimum clinical results,” says Di Pierro. “If we really want to focus on whole body wellness, hair is 50 per cent of this. Our scalp is so often overlooked and neglected.

“Biohacking, like any healing modality, should always be combined with other pillars of health – good nutrition, stress management, sleep, movement and touch.

“So while our treatment begins with a comprehensive dermascope scalp analysis and contains 17 steps, including herbal steam and LED therapy, the final step is a sensory scalp massage, because out of everything we do, nothing can ever replace the healing power of touch.

“We want our guests and member to reap the benefits of the power of science but we’ll never forget the basics – massage and touch will always be there as one of the best things for long lasting health.”
