Serenity Spa at Seaham Hall has partnered with wellness business XHayle to offer a series of new workshops based on the Wim Hof Method.

‘The Iceman’ Wim Hof’s groundbreaking method is based on three key principles: conscious breathing, cold exposure therapy and mindset.

It was designed to improve both mental and physical health, with benefits including increased energy levels, better sleep, reduced stress, heightened focus, improved willpower and a stronger immune system.

The Wim Hof Method

The workshops will be led by breathwork and cold exposure instructor Hayley Dorian, who trained with Hof, and will give guests first-hand experience of the method and the benefits of cold-water exposure.

Each course will include a two-hour guided session focusing on breathing techniques, followed by a light, plant-based lunch in the spa’s Ozone restaurant and a cold water experience in the spa’s plunge pool.

“Very few people like being cold and so the idea of submerging your body in temperatures as low as zero degrees might not appeal to most of us. But imagine what it’s like to discover that the thing you feared was the thing that made you feel so good and buzzing with life? This is exactly what cold water does, and probably the reason why so many people who try it once, continue to do so daily,” said Dorian.

Immersive wellness

Commenting on the partnership, Seaham Hall spa manager Amanda Jennings said:  “At Seaham Hall, we truly believe that a more holistic approach to treatments will continue to be a big trend in the spa and wellness industry.

“In line with this, we’re looking to further build on our existing portfolio, working with exciting new partners, such as XHayle, and also introducing new therapies such as breathwork and sound therapy.”

“To celebrate  Serenity Spa’s 20th anniversary this year –  together with exploring more holistic practices (whether medicinal or technology driven) – we are developing the spa and creating new spaces for more immersive experiences,” she added.

Taking place on October 9 and December 11, the workshops can accommodate up to 12 people and cost £155 per person. Details of 2023 sessions are expected to be released later this year.
