The UK Spa Association (UKSA) and the Standards Authority for Touch in Cancer Care (SATCC) have announced the formation of a strategic partnership.

The collaboration will serve to highlight the work of the SATCC, giving the association’s members the latest guidance on offering cancer-safe touch therapies and providing holistic support during cancer treatment and beyond.

“We are delighted to formalise this strategic partnership, which benefits UKSA members and, most importantly, the guests that they treat,” said UKSA general manager Bobby Griffiths.

“The SATCC is doing incredible work; we are proud to be collaborating with them to give our members the most up to date guidance.”

Until the formation of the SATCC, there was no standard-setting authority for oncology touch treatments and the rollout of training was too slow to keep pace with demand.

Since its inception, the SATCC has stepped in to develop training that ensures spas can support every stage of a guest’s cancer journey.

Thanks to properly accredited touch-for-cancer training, therapists can now access insurable qualifications and offer safe treatments that are empowering to both themselves and their clients.

“By partnering with the UKSA, we highlight just how valuable information on cancer services is, both for the client and the therapist. Through our collaboration we can increase the awareness, knowledge and access to the SATCC’s valuable resources.”

Setting a gold standard for oncology touch treatments

With cancer predicted to affect one in two people, spas are increasingly understanding the need to educate their teams to offer restorative touch therapies. Cancer-safe therapies are appearing on more spa menus, and doors are starting to open to those who need care the most.

“The spa and wellbeing industry is in a powerful position to provide holistic support during cancer treatment and beyond,” said SATCC founder Sue Harmsworth MBE.

“As part of our clear vision, the SATCC will continue to set a gold standard for oncology touch treatments and training providers, providing a hallmark of approval that therapists, spas and guests can trust. Ours is a community built on shared knowledge and learning for all living with, through and beyond cancer.”
