The Grand hotel in York has revealed plans to close on May 1, 2025 for the renovation of its spa and gym facilities.

The spa is set to reopen in early 2026 with a cutting-edge wellness offering. The renovation represents a £2.5m investment in the Grand’s wellness philosophy.

The project will include a comprehensive redesign of the treatment rooms, introducing new wellness technologies, plus the expansion of the relaxation spaces.

“We are reimagining what a luxury city centre spa can be and introducing a variation of thermal offerings to create a holistic wellness sanctuary that connects guests with the latest in relaxation and rejuvenation.”

Emma Sorby

Spa director, The Grand, York

Emma Sorby, previously spa director at Rudding Park, is acting as the spa consultant on the project. The spa architects and designers are Curveline.

Expanded thermal offerings

The spa’s existing design is set to be transformed, introducing a new Tirol hot sauna, a Himalayan salt sauna, a hydrotherapy pool and foot spas as well as new relaxation rooms.

There will also be a new restaurant area for day spa guests.

“As we embark on this renovation, we are investing in the future of wellness hospitality. The new spa will be a truly reimagined space to enhance our offering and set a benchmark for urban wellness in the UK.”

Adam Dyke

General manager, The Grand, York

During the refurbishment, the Grand will transform two bedrooms into treatment rooms, where therapists will continue to offer Elemis treatments.

Housed in the hotel’s atmospheric former vaults, The Spa at The Grand currently includes a 14m indoor pool and hot tub, a Nordic dry sauna and an aromatic steam room.

The 207-room Grand, York is part of the Splendid Hospitality Group, a privately owned hospitality group with 24 hotels. It is owned and directed by Shiraz and Nadeem Boghani.
