Georgian country house hotel, the Norfolk Mead, has opened a new beer spa.

The spa, which is part of a major overhaul to the Coltishall hotel’s wellness facilities, is said to be the UK’s first of its kind.

The beer spa allows guests to immerse themselves in a wooden hot tub, which is filled with vitamin-rich malt and hops. The hot tub has access to its own beer tap.

The concept of the beer spa was inspired by the success of similar spas in Europe, known for their antioxidant-rich treatments.

The immersion mixture of malt and hops can help rejuvenate the skin, reduce inflammation and improve circulation. Fresh beer for the beer tap is supplied by local business Woodforde’s Brewery.

"This marks the third phase of transformative changes at the Norfolk Mead. Despite numerous challenges, we have persevered and succeeded. Seeing the spa in its full glory, we are confident its addition will enhance overall hotel revenue.”

Created following a £3.5m investment, the new Norfolk Mead spa was part funded  through the New Anglia Small Grant Scheme, which is part funded by the European Regional Development Fund.

The project architect was Stuart Smith from SMG, and the spa design was created by owners James and Emma Holliday.

Natural Spa Factory products are used in the Norfolk Mead Spa, which is managed by Eliza Oakden. “We’re an independently owned boutique spa that prides itself on tailored experiences,” says Oakden.

“Working with Natural Spa Factory allows us to design our own treatment menu and rituals which gives the flexibility to target specific concerns and hone in on the small details that add up to make a big difference.”

An Outdoor Oasis area has an aromatic panoramic sauna, hot tub and cold bucket shower.

A spa restaurant in the hotel’s conservatory serves tapas and afternoon tea. Twenty four new staff have been recruited for opening of Norfolk Mead Spa, including ten therapists

Uniforms are supplied by Florence Roby, towels and spa linens by Hartdean/The Laundry and spa software by Phorest.
