Leading Austrian naturhotel Forsthofgut is set to unveil a £10.3m (€12m) extension to its facilities this month.

Situated in Leogang, the hotel’s enhancements were made by hosts Christoph and Christina Schmuck in pursuit of their vision of “perfect synergy with nature and optimal guest wellbeing”.

“Nature has always set the tone at the Forsthofgut,” Christoph explains. “Our spa concept combines materials from the Alpine forests and natural ingredients from the region with the strength of the elements to promote energy and relaxation.”

Local architect Andreas Hallinger and interior designer Katharina Naglich used their knowledge of Forsthofgut’s surrounding area to deliver a brief for an ecologically-sound and natural aesthetic.

A new waldSPA Lakehouse, overlooking the hotel’s organic pool, features a Japanese-themed restaurant and an onsen-style pool set at 42°C, complemented by an authentic onsen washing area. Three new Garden Loft suites benefit from floor-to-ceiling picture windows that offer view of the gardens.

Other additions include three extra treatment rooms; a fireplace relaxation lounge; 50 new recliners, including water-beds from Home Interior; and a 35sqm Finnish lake sauna supplied by Ruha Stelzmüller.
